Frequently Asked Questions

* Q How many courts does the “Simons Squash Center” have?
The “Simon Squash Center” has 12 courts, all of which will be used for the camp. In addition, the facility has a private fitness center, which will also be available to all campers.

* Q Is the facility air-conditioned?
Our squash facility is not air-conditioned, though the temperatures at the courts are always pleasant (85 degrees in a hot day).

* Q How many hours of training per day should I expect?

Not more than 5 hours per day, in 2 separate sessions. We believe that the quality of practice, not the quantity, matters. Since we always maintain a ratio of two players per court, campers never experience any waiting time during practices. The intensity of our program makes it impossible to practice in high level longer than 2 hours and a half for each session.

* Q How many campers each session?

We do not admit more than 36 campers per session. Since we have 12 courts at the Simon Squash center we divide the campers into 3 training groups of 12 for the week. The groups will rotate through 3 different training stations in the morning (fitness session, drilling session and technique session). We only allow 2 campers on court throughout all training sessions.

* Q How many coaches will attend each session?
Our coaching staff for each session of 36 campers includes 9 coaches: 3 head coaches, 2 assistant coaches, 2 junior coaches, 1 fitness coach and 1 support staff.

* Q Who are the head coaches for each session?
Squash and Beyond employs some of the best coaches and players in the world. Some of the names are listed below:
          Dave Pearson, English National coach.
          Peter Nicol, Former World’s #1,
          Nick Matthew (World #6),
          Peter Barker (world #12),
Stafford Murray, head analyst for England Sports,
          Marcus Berett, Italian National coach,
Peter Ganever (Head coach of Lambs club).

* Q What kind of supervision does the camp offer during the day and night?
During the day, “Squash and Beyond Camps” employs a full time trainer that will supervise every squash session during the week. Outside of the squash facility, campers will be supervised by the camp’s counselors at all time. However, since Williamstown is a very quite and safe town, campers are allow to spend their free time (12:30-2:30pm, 4:30-6:30pm) without any supervision within the campus premises.

* Q What is the male/female ratio for each session?
Our goal is to have a ratio of 1:1 between male and female campers for each session.

* Q Is there a separation between male and female campers in the dorms?
Yes, male and female campers sleep on different floors in the dorms and use separate designated bathrooms. The camp employs at least one female counselor each week to assist female campers with any problems.

* Q Can we participate in two sessions this summer?

Yes, it is possible upon request.

* Q Where do the campers eat and sleep?

“Squash and Beyond Camps” will use one of Williams Colleges’ dorms throughout the summer. Most campers will receive a private room in a house that features, a kitchen, TV room, library, a laundry room and vendor machines. All meals throughout the camp will be served in one of Williams Colleges’ dining halls and will be prepared by “Williams College Dining Services”. Twice each week, Campers will order lunch from local delis in town to improve food variety. On Sunday night Campers and coaches will enjoy a BBQ outdoor and on Thursday night Campers will Enjoy Pizza Night as part of the Soccer outing.

* Q What should the campers bring with them to camp?
Campers should be responsible to bring their own bed linens (single bed), enough clothes for 12 squash sessions, a bathing suit, towels, outdoor shoes, comfortable clothes for night activities, small fan, and some spending money (no more than $100).

* Q How do we get to Williams College?

Peter Pen Company runs a daily bus from Boston and NY City to Williamstown. Albany International Airport operates flights for most major air-carriers and is only 50 minutes away from Williamstown. It is also possible to take an Amtrak train from NYC, Penn Station to Albany, NY.  Squash and Beyond Camps, employ a full time driver which will provide low cost transportation from/to Albany airport and train station. Please contact Zafi Levy for more detailed information regarding ground transportation.

* Q Do you designate each week of camps for different age group?
At “Squash and Beyond” we designate each week for a specific level of squash players regardless of their age. We are committed to improve squash players at all ages and levels. In order to qualify for any of the 4 “Super elite sessions” we offer during the 2008 summer, each player will have to maintain a predetermined standard. Our goal is to form a competitive environment for all players; therefore we guarantee to register players with similar standards of playing for each week.
